Business Systems Analyst

MetLife, a leading provider of insurance and other financial services to individual and institutional customers, is seeking a Business Systems Analyst / Data Modeler in Somerset, NJ!

Major Duties and Functions Include:

  • Responsible for Business Analysis in support of Data Management initiatives across MetLife Bank’s Retail, Home Loans and Reverse Mortgage divisions.
  • Candidate should have a sound technical and banking background, exemplary interpersonal skills, a track record of producing high quality deliverables and an ability to handle multiple high priority assignments simultaneously.
  • The Data Specialist will achieve this by strategically designing, developing, and implementing data models for interfacing and supporting enterprise-level applications and systems
  • Ensure that complete solutions are in-line with overall project goals across multiple resources.
  • Source data from disparate data sources in order to assemble complete data solutions.
  • Mapping of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of ensuring data quality.
  • Develop and promote data management dictionaries, methodologies and standards.
  • Implement the appropriate tools, software, applications, and systems to support data technology goals.
  • Using Microsoft SQL reporting services, design appropriate output solution based on project requirements. Work with other analysts to refine requirements, proof solutions and achieve user acceptance.
  • Develop, maintain and promote data quality standards.
  • Isolate quality and integrity issues. Communicate and contribute to the development of a resolution path in line with standards.
  • Anticipate future needs of historical data in-line with current reporting needs.
  • Ensure translation of data into consistent, maintainable formats in preparation for the ETL process.
  • Ensure data sharing needs are met across various domains while still ensuring data access policies are applied and upheld.
  • Assist in resolving business issues by analyzing data sets in order to illuminate meaningful relationships.
  • Document existing data sources and uses of data.
  • Document and maintain procedures and process with the intention of supporting a defined, repeatable daily reporting operation.
  • Facilitate a high standard of documentation that wall ensure a successful representation of data knowledge over time.
  • Establish a compliance method for accommodating, leading knowledge of evolving data sources ensuring ongoing management of changes.
  • Establish formalized test standards that include the comparison of expected results to actual along with the documentation of results.
  • Ensure that test coverage accommodated the validation of daily operations are validate for source system changes.
  • Develop test plans that include external change factors and ensure our testing needs are included in external planning efforts.
  • What You Need to Succeed:

     

  • 4+ years of experience as an IT data analyst (gathering requirements, writing reports, extracting and validating data).
  • 3+ years of experience in the field of data mining and analytics large-scale data modeling, and business requirements gathering/analysis and support of Business Intelligence initiatives.
  • Banking or financial services background a must.
  • Direct experience in implementing data management processes, procedures, and decision support.
  • Strong understanding of relational data structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Strong familiarity with metadata management and associated processes.
  • Hands-on knowledge of enterprise repository tools, data modeling tools, ETL type data mapping tools, and data profiling tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise with repository creation, and data and information system life cycle methodologies.
  • Experience with business requirements analysis, entity relationship planning, database design, reporting structures, and so on.
  • Ability to manage data and metadata migration.
  • Experience with database platforms, specifically SQL & Oracle
  • Demonstrated skill in working independently with databases to generate graphic and tabular reports, including building complex original queries, defining data elements, interpreting results, and documenting standard procedures for report designs.
  • Proven experience in gathering business requirements from large user groups and facilitating the translation into functional requirements.
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts and database architecture and design.
  • Proven ability to learn new applications. Proficiency in Microsoft SQL, Reporting Services, Visual Studio, and Visio.
  • Apply varied gathering methods to ensure complete requirements elicitation.
  • Work with technical staff to ensure the translation of functional requirements to complete quality driven technical solutions.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of data and reporting requirements in line with project standards.
  • Understand business needs ensuring their inclusion into detailed actionable plans and ensure their roll-up into master project plans.
  • Convene, facilitate and drive user groups with the short-term charters meant to complete specific project deliverables.
  • Familiarity with BI tools specifically reporting services, Microsoft SQL server and Visual Studio.
