Organization Overview:
Achievement First is a charter school management organization started in July 2003 by the leaders of Amistad Academy, a high performing charter school in New Haven, CT. A non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization, Achievement First is creating a network of achievement-gap closing charter schools in Connecticut and New York to bring to scale the dramatic, life changing student achievement results produced at Amistad Academy. Achievement First currently operates 17 schools in both NY and CT. Over the next decade, Achievement First will grow to support 30 schools serving over 11,500 students.
In order to achieve its goals, Achievement First has developed a new team, Team Data, whose objectives are to ensure that both the leadership and teachers at Achievement First and its network of schools have the data, analysis, reports, and skill sets needed to support strategic decision-making and to inform instructional planning. Team Data accomplishes these objectives by supporting and coordinating high-quality data practices in schools, by creating systems to support data collection and data access, by conducting a rigorous analysis of the data to identify patterns and insights, and by reporting these findings to key constituencies both inside and outside of the organization. Position Overview:
Achievement First is currently seeking a smart and motivated Associate Director of Data Analysis to bring top-class data analysis to both schools and leadership at a leading charter management organization committed to using data to drive instructional improvement in classrooms. This exciting new position will play a key role in managing and implementing the analysis and reporting activities within Team Data. The Associate Director of Data Analysis will also play a lead role in deriving and communicating accurate, robust insights from data through the application of strong technical and analytical methodologies. Working collaboratively with school leaders across the organization, this role provides an exciting opportunity for someone with exceptional analytic skills to grow within the organization and contribute to the continued growth and success of Achievement First.
Responsibilities of the Associate Director of Data Analysis will include, but are not limited to:
• Design and lead project implementation for the collection, compilation, and organization of datasets from multiple data sources
• Conduct detailed analysis of student academic performance and student and staff operational statistics
• Craft and present reports and supporting documentation for key data constituencies (including school principals and Achievement First senior leadership)
• Scope and develop data tools and dashboards in response to identified school-user needs
• Build and maintain databases, data repositories, and process management systems
• Support data usage and analysis throughout the organization
• Plan and lead technical training sessions on data process and practices
Qualifications:
• 3+ years of work experience in roles demanding exceptional quantitative and qualitative analytic skills and ability to perform detailed data analysis in efficient and scalable ways
• Significant project management experience and ability to manage multi-faceted projects with complex deliverables and meet aggressive deadlines with a focus on outcomes and creative problem solving
• Demonstrated team player able to work collaboratively across an organization
• Strong technical skills including fluency with Microsoft Office and statistical software
• Superior written and oral communication skills
• Belief in the Achievement First mission and educational model and interest in growing with the organization
• Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude
• Experience working with schools or in the field of education preferred
• Undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in analytical fields (e.g. major in economics, statistics, mathematics, or other applied math field); Advanced degree preferred
